Located at the gateway to The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology campus, the auditorium’s bold, curved form stands out to signal the artistic and cultural activities within. Designed by Danish practice Henning Larsen, the circular building appears to be wrapped in three white ribbons, interspersed with windows to reveal stunning views of Clear Water Bay. Inside, the elliptical form directs a natural pedestrian flow, and is open and welcoming on all sides without a designated front or back. With its multi-purpose design the venue accommodates a wide range of events – concerts, conferences, film screenings, exhibitions, even theatre and dance – with its deep cantilevers acting as passive shading, an ingenious nod to vernacular Architecture and climate.
