Interior designer Pan Tang and graphic designer Rita Chan founded travel platform MIDWAY to celebrate their shared love of life on the road – and soon after a shop to display mementos of their journeys, in addition to their photographs and writings, all of which have amassed a cult following in print and on social media. A store and gallery in one, the pared-back shop evinces a distinct Japanese aesthetic thanks to beautiful objects found by Pan and Rita while travelling, from hand-thrown cups and pots and art-inspired jewellery, to works of century-old heritage brands, with a corner dedicated to artisanal coffee beans. Exhibitions are held in the attic area, adding another dimension to the cultural experience, with ethereal topics such as Japanese Kintsugi art covered.
