Since 2019, ISU has been working on the Smart Cultural Precinct @Central, a comprehensive, conservation place-making initiative involving participation from the community, academia, public and private sectors to create a vibrant and interconnected cultural precinct in the heart of the historic Central District. At the core of area is the Cultural Triangle formed by three historic landmarks, Police Married Quarters (PMQ), Central Police Station (Tai Kwun) and Central Market.

ISU, in collaboration with UDP International, is advancing projects within the Cultural Triangle Precinct (CTP) to host festival events in the open spaces in the CTP areas and to establish Hong Kong’s first Community and Business Improvement District (CBID). Our vision is to engage key stakeholders—including shop owners, private developers, and local communities—to cultivate a walkable and vibrant environment for both local residents and tourists.

Reimagining Central Event aims to engage diverse community stakeholders in sharing their perspectives and experiences on the cultural history and future development of Central. Through this participation, we hope to raise awareness about the CBID, uncover hidden historical narratives, and discuss how to appreciate and preserve local culture while enhancing Central.
